What is 3DS2?

3DS2 is a new standard in online payment authentication, designed to help make online payments more secure. It is part of a new European regulation, so applies only to payments made on EU cards, and started being applied to payments gradually from January 1st 2021.

3DS2 has been very successful in making payments more secure with almost no disruption to customers and businesses.

What do I need to do?

The most important thing to do is to make sure you have the most recent Tab App on your devices, as the old app does not support 3DS2. If you started using Tab after 1st December 2020 you will most likely have the new app - you can check by checking that the app icon is green.

The new app also offers a payment link feature, which means that you can send a payment link to the customer via the app so that they can pay on their own device.

How will it affect me?

For most payments, you won't notice a thing. 3DS2 is designed to offer more security with less hassle, and most of this will be done while the payment is processing without you or your customer noticing.

In a few cases, the customer's bank may need to confirm the cardholder is making the payment. Your customer will be told what to do by their bank - for example, they might be asked to confirm the payment in their banking app, or to enter a one-time password. Once they do this, the payment will proceed as normal.

You can see an example of how this will work in the app in the video below:
